Are You (really) An AP Chemistry Student?

Before you register for AP Chemistry, I want students to be fully aware of the course expectations. If you are a student considering signing up for AP Chemistry, do yourself the favor of reading what I've written about your upcoming course selection.

AP Chemistry Summer Assignment

I have updated the summer assignment. If you are a go-getter (and you had better be) you can obtain the summer assignment here, now! The AP Summer Assignment Packet is the same that you would obtain from the Learning Director's office prior to summer break. However, you will still have to obtain a packet from the Learning Director and SIGN FOR IT or you will be dropped from the class! I've also taken the time to link some resources (review activities, Khan Academy videos) on the AP Course Calendar that will help you to successfully complete both parts of the summer assignment.

Resources for AP Chemistry

picture of the book As always, I make my resources available to any teachers or students who might find them useful. You may access my notes, Powerpoints, and other printed and "virtual" resources. Students may hone their skills and knowledge with the Interactive Practice Exercises, as well as select and print a periodic table on the Printable Periodic Tables page. Reviews and links to some of my favorite chemistry related freeware can be found on the Chemistry Freeware page. I have a collection of Programs for the TI-83plus/TI-84plus graphing calculators, most of which I have written myself, for solving various types of Chemistry problems.

In keeping with the new framework I am indicating on my Reviews page and Powerpoints page if the topic to which a resource relates has been dropped from the curriculum. It will be identified as excluded (Ex→) to indicate that the College Board has specifically excluded it. I will leave the resources here, however, in case some of you find them useful.

Students and parents can access grades using the school's Online Grades. I update the grades as quickly as I get assignments graded and recorded, which is always within a day or two of the due date. You will need a user ID and a password that is provided by the school. I cannot provide these to you.

Some suggestions for success in AP Chemistry - Ignore this at your own peril!

  • Do the assigned READING before attempting the problems related to that reading
  • Do your homework the night it is assigned, and bring your questions to class the next time we meet
  • Take advantage of the example problems in the book
  • Form study groups with your peers
  • Take advantage of office hours
  • Turn lab reports in on time
  • Do not allow yourself to fall behind. Getting "caught up" is harder than keeping up.
